2024 (Redshirt Freshman)
Ismael Smith Flores has played in two games this season. He made his Nebraska debut against UTEP and had a four-yard TFL for his first career tackle.

2023 (Redshirt)
Smith Flores redshirted in his first season at Nebraska. He began his career as a tight end before switching to linebacker.

Before Nebraska (Arlington Martin HS)
Smith Flores was a standout for Arlington Martin High School in Texas. Smith Flores helped Arlington Martin win the district title and advance to the state playoffs every season of his career.

Smith Flores caught 16 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns as a senior, according to MaxPreps. He primarily lined up at wide receiver and led the Warriors with 40.8 receiving yards per game and was second on the team with 22.9 yards per reception. Smith Flores also played basketball for Arlington Martin.

Smith Flores was a three-star prospect who was ranked among the nation’s top 30 tight ends by On3. He had several Power Five offers and chose Nebraska over Iowa, among others.

His father, LeRoy Smith, was a defensive lineman at Iowa from 1989 to 1991 and is a member of the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. LeRoy was a consensus All-American in 1991, when he was also the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year after recording 18 sacks, which was a Big Ten record at the time.

Personal
Ismael was born on March 23, 2005, and he is the son of LeRoy Smith and Laura Flores.
