Before Nebraska (West Lyon HS/Northwestern College)

Jalyn Gramstad was the top NAIA player in the country before transferring to Nebraska for his final season. Gramstad spent four years at Northwestern College in Iowa, beginning his career as a defensive back before switching to quarterback.

 

Gramstad led the Raiders to the NAIA national championship in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023. At Northwestern, Gramstad completed 438-of-647 passes (68 percent) for 6,237 yards and 60 touchdowns. He added 1,822 rushing yards with 31 touchdowns.

 

In 2023, Gramstad was the NAIA Player of the Year, the GPAC Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. He threw for 3,681 yards and 35 touchdowns while leading the NAIA in passing and completion percentage (67.8). Gramstad set a school record for completions (258) and ranked second in school history in passing yards and passing touchdowns. On the ground, Gramstad rushed for 772 yards and eight touchdowns.

 

In 2022, Gramstad had 2,511 passing yards and 1,024 rushing yards while accounting for 58 total touchdowns. He set a school record by completing 68.8 percent of his passes and threw for 25 touchdowns and rushed for 23 scores.

 

Gramstad spent his first two seasons at Northwestern as a defensive back. In 2021, he recorded 36 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and one fumble recovery. He also tied for the team lead with seven pass breakups. In the 2020 Covid season, Gramstad totaled 31 tackles with two interceptions.

 

Gramstad played his prep ball for West Lyon High School in Iowa. A two-way player, he helped West Lyon to a state championship as a quarterback and defensive back. An all-state football player, Gramstad was also an all-conference pick in basketball, baseball and golf.

 

Personal

Jalyn is the son of Kjert and Michelle Gramstad. He has four siblings, Korbyn, Mallory, Kyndra and Kelyn. Korbyn also played football at Northwestern College.
