Before Nebraska (Salinas HS/California)
Nyziah Hunter spent two seasons at California before transferring to Nebraska. He redshirted in his first season in 2023 before playing in 12 games with eight starts as a redshirt freshman in 2024.

Hunter caught 40 passes for 578 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, leading Cal in receiving touchdowns. He caught at least one pass in all 12 games with multiple receptions in 11 contests. Hunter had at least four receptions in six of his 12 games.

In his prep career, Hunter was a standout wide receiver for Salinas High School in California. Over his junior and senior seasons combined, Hunter caught 93 passes for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 15 carries for 169 yards and five touchdowns. Hunter was a first-team all-conference selection as both a junior and senior. He caught 52 passes for 912 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior after having 41 receptions, 651 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns as a junior. Hunter also ran track at Salinas, winning district titles in the 100 and 200 meters as a junior while being a state finalist in the 100 meters.

Hunter was a four-star recruit who was ranked among the nation’s top 300 players by On3.
