Shawn Hammerbeck was the top player in South Dakota as a standout lineman for Winner High School. In addition to being a dominant lineman, Hammerbeck was an all-around athlete who also excelled in basketball and track and field.
As a senior, Hammerbeck helped the Warriors to the program’s 10th state championship. Winner finished with a 12-0 record and Hammerbeck won the Outstanding Lineman award in the state championship game. A two-time all-state selection, Hammerbeck was recognized as the 2024 All-American award winner as the top player on the 11B all-state team. Hammerbeck battled injuries as a senior, but in a full junior season he led his team in tackles as a defensive lineman.
Off the gridiron, Hammerbeck claimed all-state basketball honors as a junior, averaging 15.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He averaged 13.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a senior. In track and field, he won the Class A gold medal in the discus with a personal-best and school-record mark of 163-3 and placed fifth in the javelin (153-11).
