Ira Savage-Lewis is in his first season as a graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2024. In his role, Savage-Lewis works with the Husker defensive line.
Prior to joining Nebraska’s staff, Savage-Lewis spent nearly three years as a social studies teacher and assistant football coach at Alvin ISD in Pearland, Texas. Primarily coaching the defensive line at the varsity level, he was a member of the 2021 Division 23-6A Coaching Staff of the Year.
Savage-Lewis had a stint at Lamar High School of Houston ISD, teaching social studies and coaching football from June 2020 to May 2021. At Lamar, he engaged in athletic training, athlete development, film analysis, recruitment, scouting, strength and conditioning and defensive play calling.
Earning his bachelor’s degree in political science from Baylor in 2018, Savage-Lewis played defensive tackle and defensive end for the Bears. He overlapped two seasons with Coach Matt Rhule and started every game of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Savage-Lewis went on to play two seasons for the Houston Texans as a defensive lineman, defensive tackle and defensive end.
