Tariq Thompson is in his first season as a Nebraska graduate assistant in 2024. Thompson joined the Huskers after a professional playing career that included signing a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills and a stint with the San Diego Strike Force in the Indoor Football League.
Thompson was a standout safety at San Diego State from 2017 to 2020. He started 47 games and recorded 216 career tackles with 12.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, 35 pass breakups, 12 interceptions and six fumble recoveries. He ended his career tied for third all-time at San Diego State in fumble recoveries and ranked fifth in interceptions and sixth in forced fumbles.
Thompson was a four-time All-Mountain West selection with the Aztecs. As a freshman in 2017, Thompson played under Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White and was a second-team all-conference pick and a freshman All-American.
Thompson earned his bachelor's degree from San Diego State in 2021.
