BEFORE NEBRASKA
Taj DeGourville (pronounced TAH-zh dee-GORE-vil) spent the first two seasons of his college career at San Diego State. He played in every game for SDSU and Coach Brian Dutcher in that span, helping the Aztecs earn an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025 and a runner-up finish in the Mountain West Conference in 2026.
As a sophomore, DeGourville made 33 appearances, including five starts, for an Aztec team that went 22-11 and finished second in the Mountain West with a 14-6 mark and reached the title game of the MWC Tournament. He averaged 5.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game, pacing SDSU in assists and ranked among the Mountain West leaders in both assists (12th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0-to-1). Four of his five double-figure efforts came in Mountain West action, including a season-high 13 points at UNLV. He had five or more assists in seven contests, with five of his performances coming in conference play or the conference tournament. He played in all 31 contests on San Diego State’s NCAA Tournament team in 2024-25, averaging 5.1 points 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 18.9 minutes per game. A two-time MWC Freshman of the Week, DeGourville ranked second among Mountain West freshman in assists and in the top six among conference rookies in 3-point field goals, rebounds and field goals. He totaled five double-figure efforts, including a career-high 14 points on two occasions. One of his best performances came at Nevada when he had 14 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, and three assists. He dished out five-or-more assists on seven occasions and grabbed six or more rebounds on four occasions.
A native of Las Vegas, DeGourville played his senior year at national power Wasatch Academy, helping the school to a 17-7 mark. A four-star recruit by ESPN, he was rated among the top 150 players in the country by 247Sports as a senior. As a junior, he helped Durango High School to a 5A state title with a 21-6 record and was a first-team All-Southern Nevada selection by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. DeGourville earned Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) All-State Academic Team distinction as a junior. He also played AAU basketball with Vegas Elite.
PERSONAL
The son of Tisha DeGourville, Taj is majoring in criminal justice at Nebraska. DeGourville earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2026 and was a two-time Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete in his time with San Diego State.
