Heather Kiefer, Ph.D., CMPC, is in her second year at Nebraska as an Athletic Psychologist after joining the staff in July of 2023.
Dr. Kiefer works with several Husker programs, including men’s basketball, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, rifle, and women’s golf. In her role, she provides mental health and sport performance services to student-athletes as well as consultation and outreach services to student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff. Dr. Kiefer also serves as the Olympic Sports Performance Program Coordinator.
Prior to joining Nebraska Athletics, Dr. Kiefer completed her doctoral internship at the University of Iowa’s counseling center and Sport Psychology department. She received her Ph.D., in counseling psychology with a concentration in sport psychology from the University of North Texas in July of 2023. Additionally, Dr. Kiefer is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology.
Kiefer played collegiate softball at James Madison University, where she was a two-time NFCA All-Region selection and three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection.
Kiefer received her undergraduate degree in psychology from JMU in 2015 and a master’s degree in sport psychology from Florida State University in 2018. She currently resides in Lincoln with her dog, Marina.
