Before Nebraska
Hughes comes to Nebraska after a strong high school career in Oklahoma. The four-year varsity golfer out of Edmond Santa Fe High School produced a 10th-place finish at the 2022 Oklahoma Class 6A High School State Championship as a junior in 2022.

Hughes added a tie for 33rd at the state tournament as a senior. A three-time All-Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference performer on the course, Hughes added a runner-up finish at the Oklahoma Boys Junior Amateur in 2022.

He also placed third at the Red River Challenge, which consists of the top juniors in Texas and Oklahoma.

“It’s been great getting to know Rhett and he’s going to be a fantastic fit to our program,” Nebraska Head Coach Judd Cornell said. “He will have a great opportunity to play and really grow as a player. He’s shown that he can compete with some of the top juniors in the country on multiple occasions and I’m really excited for him because he’s going to have a great career here.”

Hughes also placed fourth at the AJGA GreatLife Junior Challenge along with finishing 10th at the Oklahoma 6A-1 State Championships.

Personal
The son of Nick and Ashley Hughes and Lisa and Jeff Adams, Rhett was born April 5, 2005. He has a brother, Chase Hughes, and sisters Bree Hughes and Emmy Adams. A finance major, Rhett earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2024.

Hughes chose Nebraska over Grand Canyon and Pacific.

“It’s closer to home, it’s a higher level of competition, and I’ve always loved Lincoln and its environment,” Hughes said. “I’ve always wanted to play in a Power Conference.”
