Duran’s Career Capsule
A season-ending hand injury cut short Amanda Duran’s first year with the Huskers in 2008, but the heralded junior college transfer still put together a solid two-year career at Nebraska. Duran ranked in the top three on the team in doubles and RBIs in her first season despite missing 20 games with a broken hand. As a senior, Duran led NU in average and doubles, while tying for the lead in RBIs.

After totaling 38 home runs and 176 RBIs in two seasons as a first-team NJCAA All-American at Pima (Ariz.) Community College, Duran proved to be one of the Huskers’ best hitters in her limited time in Lincoln. She boasted a .332 career average that would have ranked ninth in school history had she reached the required 250 minimum at bats (she had 229 career at bats). A 2009 second-team All-Big 12 pick, Duran drove in 56 runs in only 82 career starts while posting a .435 career on-base percentage.

Senior Season [2009]
Duran earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a season and was one vote shy of earning a spot on the NFCA All-Midwest region squad. She paced NU with a .364 average that was the highest average at Nebraska by a non-slapper since three-time All-American Jennifer Lizama batted .372 in 1997. Duran also paced NU with 11 doubles, a .524 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage. She tied for the team lead with 36 RBIs after producing a team-best two RBIs in the NCAA Tournament, when she went 5-for-10. A native of Tucson, Ariz., Duran also ranked second on the squad with 27 walks.

Duran ranked third in the Big 12 Conference in on-base percentage and seventh in average and walks. On the Husker history books, Duran's average ranked as the 13th-highest in school history, while she was one double and two walks shy of cracking the top 10. She was also hit by nine pitches, which ranks ninth in school history. Duran also had the highest caught-stealing percentage of any league catcher, as she threw out 14-of-25 would-be base stealers. On the season, she finished with a .976 fielding percentage.

Junior Season [2008]
Duran’s first season with the Huskers was cut short due to a hand injury that required season-ending surgery and forced her to miss the final 20 games of the season ... before her injury, earned 29 starts (26 at catcher and three as the designated player) and led the team with eight doubles and ranked second with 20 RBIs ... despite the injury, still finished second in doubles and third in RBIs ... recorded seven multi-RBI efforts to rank second on the team, while also adding six multi-hit contests ... also led the team with three game-winning RBIs prior to her injury to finish second in that category ... one of the top clutch hitters on the team, was 5-for-6 with the bases loaded (.833), hit .343 with runners in scoring position and produced nine of her 20 RBIs with two outs ... in 14 games batting in the cleanup spot, hit .410 (16-for-39) with six doubles and 10 RBIs ... was 3-for-4 as a pinch-hitter with a double and four RBIs ... began her career by hitting .348 in the month of February ... finished with a .279 average, but was hitting .314 just one week before her season-ending injury ... batted .364 in 10 home games, scoring seven times and adding six RBIs ... hit .318 in eight road games ... hit .333 outside of the Big 12 Conference while slugging at a .444 clip and producing 19 RBIs ... defensively, threw out 8-of-22 would-be base stealers, while three of her four errors were catcher’s interference calls.

World University Games - Team USA [Summer, 2007]
Duran was one of 15 players from the NJCAA level chosen by junior college coaches to represent Team USA at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, in August of 2007 ... helped lead Team USA to a 3-3 record at the event ... started all six games, including four at catcher ... helped lead Team USA to a 3-1 record in pool play, including victories over Australia, Japan and the Czech Republic ... Team USA finished second in Pool B, but fell in bracket play to the senior Canadian Olympic Team, coached by NU Associate Head Coach Lori Sippel ... Japan then avenged an earlier loss to the United States to end Team USA’s hopes for a medal.

Before Nebraska
Duran enjoyed a standout two-year stint at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. ... was a two-time first-team NJCAA All-American for the Aztecs ... was also selected as the back-to-back winner of the NJCAA Division I Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year award by the NFCA... only player ever to win the honor more than once ... posted impressive numbers during a stellar freshman season while helping lead Pima to the national title ... hit .531 with 25 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 68 runs scored and 109 RBIs ... produced the third-highest single-season total in NJCAA history (dating back to 1989) with 109 RBIs ... was just 13 RBIs shy of tying the record, set by Olympic Gold Medalist Crystal Bustos in 1997 ... led the NJCAA ranks in RBIs, while ranking second in home runs and fifth in average ... played a key role during Pima’s run to the championship, earning a nod on the NJCWS all-tournament team ... hit .500 (8-for-16) with two homers, six runs scored and five RBIs in five games at the World Series ... hit a walk-off two-run home run in the 10th inning of a quarterfinal game against Odessa (Texas) to help propel Pima into the finals ... in the national championship game, scored the game-winning run in the Aztecs’ 4-3 win over Gulf Coast (Fla.) ... followed her outstanding rookie season by leading Pima to a 53-13 record in 2007 ... hit .441 with 16 doubles, 17 home runs and 67 RBIs ... ranked seventh in the NJCAA in home runs and 13th in RBIs ... finished her outstanding junior college career as a .490 hitter with 38 homers and 176 RBIs ... played her high school ball at Salpointe Catholic in Tucson.

Personal
Amanda Duran is the daughter of Louis and Sharon Duran and was born on Nov. 17, 1986, in Tucson, Ariz. She has one sister, Nicole (25) and two brothers Louie (27) and Marc (20). Amanda is majoring in psychology.
