Freshman Season [2008]
Sammi Liegl welcomed a pinch-running role for the 2008 Huskers ... with every outfielder returning from 2007, saw only one inning of outfield work this season ... appeared in 27 games, including 26 as a pinch runner, scoring 12 times ... made her career debut against California in the Huskers' season opener ... made her career debut in right field for one inning against No. 5 Texas A&M on April 27 ... scored her first run against Idaho State on Feb. 15 and added another run against then-No. 6 Northwestern on Feb. 17 ... also scored a run against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 29 ... added two more runs in a March 8 doubleheader with Northern Colorado ... scored two runs in five games in Las Vegas ... scored her first career Big 12 run against Baylor on April 13 and scored again at Iowa State two days later ... added another run against North Dakota State on April 23 ... scored her final run of the regular season against Missouri on May 4 ... scored a run in the Huskers' 6-5 upset victory of No. 7 Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship.

Before Nebraska
Liegl attended Pius X as one of two Lincoln natives among the freshman class ... was a four-year starter for the Thunderbolts ... hit .448 for Pius with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, 16 stolen bases, 23 runs scored and 26 RBIs as a senior ... Liegl joined fellow freshman Kelli Linke - also a Lincoln native - as a Lincoln Journal Star first-team Super State selection in 2006 ... earned Class B honorable-mention all-state honors from the publication as a junior in 2005 ... selected to participate in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game in the summer of 2007 ... helped lead the Red team to a 5-1 victory with an RBI hit ... her RBI hit scored fellow freshman Heidi Foland, while Kelli Linke also added an RBI hit in the game.

The daughter of Dave and Therese Liegl, Samantha Marie Liegl was born on March 4, 1989, in Lincoln ... has two sisters, Jessa, 24, and Shawna, 21, and one brother Nick, 26 ... father Dave was a cornerback for the Husker football team, lettering from 1978 to 1980 ... Sammi is a pre-social science major ... favorite holiday is Christmas ... favorite actor is Jack Black ... favorite subject is history ... says the crazy weather is the best thing about Nebraska ... in 10 years, hopes to be teaching, coaching and raising a family.
