Sophomore (2024-25)
One of the hardest working Huskers, Beatrix Tanko scored for the Huskers in six events at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. The sophomore from Budapest, Hungary notched her top individual finish by taking 18th in the 100 butterfly, while adding a 22nd-place finish in the 100 freestyle (49.53) at the conference meet. She also helped the Huskers smash three school relay records at the Big Ten Championships, including the 200 free relay (1:29.97), the 800 free relay (7:07.35) and the 400 medley relay (3:36.12), while also contributing to the second-fastest time in school history (3:18.94) at the conference meet. Earlier in the season, Tanko swam the anchor leg for the 400 free relay school record at the Hawkeye Invitational (3:18.25).
Tanko also set three collegiate career bests at the 2025 Big Ten Championships, including a 22.47 in the 50 free prelims. She added a 49.53 in the finals of the 100 free, while also racing to a 52.77 in the prelims of the 100 butterfly. Her 50 free time was the fastest of the season by a Husker and the second fastest in school history. Her 100 fly time was also the second fastest in Husker history, while her 100 free time was the second-best by a Husker in 2024-25 and ranked seventh in the Big Red record book.
Following the collegiate season, Tanko captured three medals at the 2025 Hungarian National Championships. She raced to gold in the 50-meter butterfly (27.04) on April 11, after earning silver in the 50-meter free (25.58) on April 10. She capped her appearance at Hungarian Nationals with a second silver in the 100-meter fly (59.41) on April 12. She added a top-eight finish at her national meet by taking eighth in the 100-meter free (57.20) on April 9.
Tanko was a reliable contributor and leader for the Big Red in the water throughout the season. In a tri-dual win over Iowa and Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J., Tanko powered four first-place relay teams. Individually, she took second in the 100 fly (53.56) and third in the 100 free (50.82).
In a dual win over Illinois, Tanko helped the Huskers to victories in the 200 medley relay (1:39.79) and 400 free relay (3:21.15), while adding second-place individual finishes in the 50 free (23.28) and 100 fly (53.99).
Tanko helped the Huskers secure a dual victory over Omaha with a runner-up finish in the 100 free (52.48), while contributing to relay wins in the 200 medley (1:44.18) and 200 free relays (1:35.02).
Tanko was a key contributor to Nebraska's second consecutive team championship at the Hawkeye Invitational. She won the 100 butterfly (53.46), while also recording then-personal bests in the 50 free (22.72) and the 100 free (49.59). She also sparked Husker victories in the 800 free relay (7:14.79) and the school-record-setting 400 free relay (3:18.25). She added to NU's third-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:30.71) and fourth-place showing in the 200 medley relay (1:39.86).
Tanko claimed two individual wins (50 free, 100 free) in a dual win over South Dakota State, while powering the Big Red to a 200 free relay (1:35.67) victory.
She captured a win in the 100 fly in a dual win over Kansas (Nov. 1), while adding a third-place finish in the 50 free. She fueled NU's relay win over the Jayhawks in the 400 free, while helping the Huskers to a second-place showing in the 200 medley relay.
Tankso took titles in the 200 free and 100 fly against Iowa State (Oct. 25), while adding victories in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay against the Cyclones at the Devaney Natatorium. She finished fourth in the 50 free and contributed to strong finishes in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay against Iowa (Oct. 18).
Tanko opened her second season as a Husker with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a double-dual with No. 24 Minnesota and South Dakota at the Devaney Natatorium (Oct. 4). She added a fourth-place finish in the 50 free. She also swam legs in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay against the Golden Gophers and Coyotes.
Freshman (2023-24)
Tanko was a key contributor for the Huskers in her freshman season. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 25 after a stellar performance against South Dakota State (Oct. 20) when she won two individual titles and helped two relay teams to first-place finishes.
Tanko excelled in the 100 butterfly, hitting her first NCAA B Standard at the Hawkeye Invite. She touched the wall in 53.26 to finish runner-up in the event.
Tanko went on to set a new career-best and broke the school record at the Big Ten Championships with a 10th-place finish and a time of 53.16. She added a pair of top-10 finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle at the Hawkeye Invite with final times of 23.43 and 51.29. Tanko earned 14 top-three finishes and six titles on the season, while contributing to 10 winning relays, including four against Rutgers (Feb. 2-3). She helped three relay teams at the Big Ten Championships move to second and third all-time for NU.
Before Nebraska
Tanko comes to Nebraska from Budapest, Hungary, where she grabbed a pair of first-place finishes with the Hungarian Age Group Relay Team at the 2022 Gymnasiade. In 2021, she won a silver medal in the 100 butterfly at the Hungarian Age Group Nationals. She’s had multiple appearances in the 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 free and 100 free at the Hungarian Nationals B-Finals and was a part of the 2019 bronze medal 4x100 freestyle relay team at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
Personal
The daughter of Peter and Eniko Tanko, Beatrix was born on Dec. 25, 2004. A double-major in finance and computer science, Tanko earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2025. She also claimed Academic All-Big Ten honors for the first time in 2025. A three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection, Tanko is a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2024 for her service in the Lincoln community.
