Marissa Laurin Season 2024-25

Freshman (2024-25)
Marissa Laurin posted impressive times and finishes in a meet against the Iowa State Cyclones (Oct. 25) at the Devaney Center. She swam a personal best in the 200 IM (2:06.17) collecting a first-place finish. Moreover, she collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 (57.64) and 200 (2:03.25) backstroke. She further contributed to a first-place finish for the 200 medley relay (1:44.76).  As the relay leadoff, she swam the 50 meter leg in 27.65.

Laurin continued her momentum in a dual against the Iowa Hawkeyes (Oct. 18) in Iowa City, Iowa. She prevailed to a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:06.87) and a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:03.84). Laurin also captured a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.67). She led the 200 medley relay team to a second-place finish (1:44.81) alongside her teammates Jojo Randby, Breatrix Tanko, and Maisie Gilford. 

Marissa Laurin got her collegiate career off to a strong start by notching runner-up finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:02.47) and 200 IM (2:06.79) in a double-double with No. 24 Minnesota and South Dakota at the Devaney Natatorium (Oct. 4). The freshman from Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada added a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.55), while also swimming a leg in Nebraska's third-place 200 medley relay team.

Before Nebraska
Laurin joined the Huskers as an experienced swimmer in the backstroke and individual medley events. She is from Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada and swam for the Grand Prairie Piranhas, where she earned Swimmer of the Year and Most Improved Swimmer Awards. Laurin took third in the 200 backstroke at the Canada Summer Games and finished in the top-10 of her age group in Canada in various other events. She also helped her club team to a third-place finish in medium-sized teams in the provincial championships. At the 2024 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, Laurin set a career-best in the 200 long-course backstroke prelims and finished 11th to qualify for the finals, where she set a new career-best of 2:15.70 and finished sixth-overall.

Personal
The daughter of Michael and Candice Laurin, Marissa was born on May 1, 2006. She has one sister, Mikayla. Laurin plans to study Law and Business at Nebraska with the goal of working at and eventually owning part of a law firm. 

“I chose Nebraska because I know Pablo (Morales) and Patrick (Rowan) are great coaches and will help me improve in my sport and have created a positive team atmosphere that I am excited to be a part of,” Laurin said. “The academic and athletic support has far surpassed what I was looking for in a school and made the decision a lot easier.”
