Ellie Furneisen joined the Nebraska Athletic Medicine staff in August of 2024. As the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the spirit squad, Furneisen provides care for Husker cheer, the Scarlets and the Nebraska mascots. She previously worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the spirit squad in 2021-2023.
Prior to returning to Nebraska, Furneisen was an Athletic Training Fellow at Gonzaga University, working with women’s rowing and men’s cross country. She also provided care for GU women’s soccer and the tennis programs during her time in Spokane, even traveling to Lincoln for the second round of the 2023 NCAA women’s soccer tournament.
Furneisen originally joined the Huskers in 2021 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, providing care to the spirit squad during the cheer team’s return to stunting and the Scarlets’ return to UDA competition. She earned an M.A. while in this role and graduated from UNL in 2023.
Furneisen earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Washington State University in 2021. She is a NATABOC certified athletic trainer and a member of NATA. She holds additional trainings and certifications in HawkGrips IASTM (Level 1), B-Strong blood flow restriction, and mental health first aid and suicide prevention.
Originally from Buffalo, Minnesota, Ellie and her family moved to Kailua Kona, Hawaii in 2014, where she lived until graduating high school and moving to WSU. Furneisen has 11 years of competitive dance experience and enjoys working as an athletic trainer in the dance/cheer world that she grew up in.
