Gus Felder is in his second season as Nebraska’s director of football player development in 2024. He has NFL front office experience as well as a background in strength and conditioning and player development at the Power Conference level.
Felder came to Nebraska after three seasons with Matt Rhule and the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2022. Felder joined the Panthers’ staff as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. After one year in that position, he moved into a front office role dealing with player engagement, ending his tenure as Carolina’s player engagement manager.
Prior to the Panthers, Felder gained administrative experience as the director of athletics for Bethlehem Christian Academy in Georgia for one year. Before taking the head job at Bethlehem Christian Academy, Felder served a brief stint in a player development role at Georgia Tech.
Felder spent five seasons as a Power Five strength and conditioning coach. He was the director of strength and conditioning at Miami for three seasons from 2016 to 2018. Felder began his career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Penn State for two seasons in 2010 and 2011. Felder also served as the assistant director of strength and conditioning at Georgia during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
In between his time at Penn State and Georgia, Felder spent two years in a dual role with Clark Atlanta University, where he was an offensive line coach and the director of strength and conditioning. He also served in a dual role for Cheney University, where he was the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in addition to being the head strength and conditioning coach.
Felder began his career coaching in the high school ranks. He coached at Simon Gratz and State College Area High School in Pennsylvania in addition to Melbourne High School in Florida.
Felder was a four-year letterman for Penn State as an offensive lineman from 1999 to 2002. He was named an All-Big Ten selection in both 2001 and 2002. Following his collegiate career, Felder had a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns in the NFL.
A North Philadelphia native, Felder earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Penn State. He later earned his master’s degree in educational leadership with a concentration in health education from Penn State, during which time he served as a graduate assistant with the Nittany Lion football team. He and his wife, Kelly, have six children: Destiny, Jazmin, Hailey, Alexa, Ej and Faith.
