Larry Maples joins the University of Nebraska in September 2024 as Associate Athletic Director of Capital Projects. Previously, he served as the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Capital Projects at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) since 2020, after starting as Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Operations in 2016.
During his time at MTSU, Maples dedicated much of his effort to the Blue Raiders’ transformative Build Blue $100 million facility project, overseeing key phases including the Student Athlete Performance Center and the Multi-Purpose Indoor Practice Facility. He also led the development of an $8 million outdoor tennis complex, which opened in spring 2024.
In addition to his facility projects, Maples acted as the chief liaison to multiple campus entities and has played a pivotal role in organizing numerous championships at both the conference and NCAA levels. His leadership in capital maintenance and upgrades resulted in over $14 million in projects, including new videoboards for various sports and the recent outdoor tennis complex.
A recognized leader in the field, Maples received the Jeff Boss District IV Equipment Manager of the Year award in 2017 and 2020, participated in the 2018-19 Sports Management Institute Executive Program, and was part of the inaugural 2020 Top Connect AD class. He is also an active member of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council.
Before joining MTSU, Maples worked as a supply chain engineer for Mueller Industries and as an industrial engineer for Electrolux Home Cooking Products. He began his career in athletics as the assistant equipment manager for the Blue Raiders from 2013 to 2014.
Maples holds a degree in Engineering Technologies from Middle Tennessee State University (2013). He is married to Carmen Merritt, and they have a daughter, Chloe, who is 5 years old.
