Dr. Ross Mathiasen joined Nebraska Athletics in 2023 as the Chief Medical Director and Head Team Physician. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for undergraduate studies, followed by medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He then completed residency training in Emergency Medicine and fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of Iowa before returning to UNMC in Omaha.
Dr. Mathiasen is the past chair of the Sports Medicine Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians, served in the medical pool for the US Ski & Snowboard Team, and was a team physician for Creighton University prior to joining Nebraska Athletics. In addition to working with Nebraska Athletics, Dr. Mathiasen also serves at the chair of the Nebraska School Activities Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, Tournament Physician for the NCAA Men’s College World Series, associate program director for the UNMC Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, and is an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UNMC.
