Sam Roth is in his first season as Nebraska’s director of football rehabilitation in 2025.
Roth came to Nebraska after spending two years at the University of Houston. He served as the Cougars’ sports physical therapy fellow in 2023 before becoming the associate director of sports medicine/director of rehabilitation in 2024.
Roth served a dual role in his final year at Houston, working as an assistant athletic trainer for the football team while also overseeing post-operative rehabilitation for student-athletes across all sports. He managed and coordinated the reintegration of post-operative student-athletes into team activities through collaboration with physicians, athletic trainers, performance staff and coaching. In his first year with the Cougars, Roth worked primarily with the football, basketball and baseball teams in addition to assisting with post-operative rehabilitation and return to play assessments for all student-athletes.
Prior to Houston, Roth completed a sports physical therapy residency through Memorial Hermann Rockets Sports Medicine Institute in partnership with Houston Christian University and George Ranch High School.
Roth began his career working with the football and men’s basketball teams as a student at Nebraska. He earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Nebraska in 2019 and his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2021.
Roth is a board-certified specialist in Sports Physical Therapy among other certifications. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
