Tanner Fowler joined the Nebraska Athletic Department as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in July of 2022. In that role, he covers baseball and has been a part of back-to-back Big Ten Baseball Tournament Championships in 2024 and 2025. Fowler came to Nebraska after spending three years as an Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at Santa Clara University from 2019 to 2022. There he served as the athletic trainer for the baseball and golf teams. He also assisted with various administrative duties in the Sports Medicine department and oversaw assistant athletic trainers and graduate assistant athletic trainers, as well as clinical immersion students. As the Special Projects and Event Medical Coverage Coordinator for the Sports Medicine Department, he hosted the 2021 NCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship. Prior to Santa Clara, Fowler was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at California State University, Northridge covering the baseball, golf and volleyball teams. He also supervised graduate assistants and served as an ATEP Preceptor to students in the undergraduate athletic training program.
Before heading out to the west coast, Fowler worked as an Intern Athletic Trainer and Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Husker baseball program from 2015 to 2017, including the 2017 Big Ten Championship season. Fowler is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is a NATA BOC Certified Athletic Trainer. He is also a Corrective Exercise Specialist and is certified in Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation and holds an OnBase University Hitting and Pitching Certification. In addition, He has his SFDN1 and SFDN2 certification in Dry Needling. A native of Bertrand, Nebraska, Fowler previously worked as an Athletic Trainer at Complete Physical Therapy in 2014. Fowler earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Nebraska in 2014 and his master's degree in higher education administration with a focus on sports administration from Nebraska in 2017. He and his wife, Neleigh, their daughter, Maela, and their dog Remington reside in Lincoln.
