Olivia Ferrell was named a full-time assistant coach in July of 2023 after serving as a graduate manager for the Huskers during the 2023 season. In her first season on the coaching staff, Ferrell helped Nebraska advance to an NCAA Regional Final.
Ferrell joined the coaching staff immediately following her playing career for the Huskers from 2018 to 2022. Ferrell pitched in 131 games over five seasons, compiling a 44-39 record with six saves, a 3.42 ERA and 404 strikeouts in 524.0 innings. At the conclusion of her career, Ferrell ranked ninth in Nebraska history in career strikeouts.
As a senior in 2022, Ferrell helped Nebraska to the first Big Ten Tournament title in program history as a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament team. She also earned second-team All-Big Ten and second-team all-region accolades as a senior. Ferrell posted a 20-7 record with two saves in 2022, finishing with a 2.00 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 171.2 innings over 36 appearances and 24 starts.
Ferrell won nine games and recorded two saves as a junior 2021 with a 3.39 ERA. In the Covid-shortened 2020 season, Ferrell earned three wins. As a sophomore in 2019, Ferrell also won three games. She made an instant impact as a freshman in 2018, finishing with a 9-8 record and two saves in 31 appearances.
Ferrell also hit for the Huskers, posting a .227 career batting average with 39 hits, nine doubles and six home runs in 172 at bats.
An Omaha native and Elkhorn South High School graduate, Ferrell received her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2021 and her masters degree in education administration in 2023. In the classroom, Ferrell was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection at Nebraska and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
