Casie Witte joined the Huskers as an assistant director of operations and recruiting in November of 2022. Witte was a previous member of the NU track coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for 10 seasons (2008-18), working with combined events.
Witte returns to Lincoln after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach at North Dakota State. In her first season with the Bison in 2019, Witte coached NDSU to a sweep of all four Summit League multi-events titles -- Macy Denzer in the women's pentathlon, Ryan Enerson in the men's heptathlon, Amanda Levin in the women's heptathlon, and Tony Ukkelberg in the men's decathlon. The Bison men finished 1-2-3 in the decathlon at the Summit League Outdoor Championships, and the NDSU women took 1st, 3rd and 4th in the heptathlon.
Levin set the NDSU heptathlon school record with 5,695 points in 2019 and earned honorable mention All-America status with a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
In her time at Nebraska, Witte coached Husker men and women to 15 All-America honors and 20 conference championships. She worked with the Husker combined events and helped Cody Walton achieve second-team All-America honors in the decathlon in 2016, in addition to third-place finishes at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships each of the past two seasons.
Witte helped guide freshman Maggie Malone to second-team All-America accolades in the javelin at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In addition, Witte helped coach Teran Walford (decathlon) and Anne Martin (heptathlon) to runner-up finishes at the conference meet and later to USTFCCCA honorable mention at the NCAA Championships.
In her first year in 2008, Witte helped coach six NCAA Championship qualifiers, including Megan Wheatley, Chantae McMillan, Natalie Willer, Skyler Reising, Erin Hannon and Kim Shubert. Wheatley and Shubert also captured the first individual Big 12 titles of their careers at the 2008 outdoor championships, with Wheatley winning the heptathlon and Shubert winning the high jump.
Since then, she has helped coached Bjorn Barrefors to two conference titles and six All-America honors. She was also instrumental in the development of McMillan and worked closely with her as she continued to train after her Husker career. McMillan went on to represent the United States in the 2012 London Olympics.
Witte’s first-year success carried into year two as she and Grimes coached Wheatley to an indoor pentathlon title and Willer to a pole vault title at the conference indoor meet. Four of Witte’s athletes then went on to earn five All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships. In the combined events, Wheatley and McMillan earned All-America accolades in the pentathlon, while Barrefors broke the school-record and earned All-America honors in the heptathlon. Seth Burney became an All-American for the first time in his career in the pole vault, while McMillan added honors in the women’s long jump as well.
Witte earned her Level I Coaching Education Certification during the summer of 2008 and her Level II Certification in the combined events during the summer of 2009.
A team co-captain for the 2007 Huskers, Witte made two trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships while wearing the scarlet and cream, competing in the high jump in 2005 and the heptathlon in 2007. The Lincoln, Nebraska, native capped her final Big 12 Championship meet in style, placing second in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 5,347, while also finishing fourth the javelin and seventh in the high jump.
