Senior (Fall 2003)
Schaefer entered the fall season as Nebraska's captain and showed her leadership by producing consistently low scores. She unleashed a career-low round of 69 at the Chip-N Club Invitational on her way to a career-best third-place finish. Schaefer added the second-best round of her career with a 71 at the Shootout at the Legends on her way to a career-low three-round score of 223 to finish in a tie for 20th. She added a tie for 10th in two rounds at the Ron Moore Highlands Ranch Intercollegiate, a tie for 18th in three rounds at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational and a tie for 23rd at the adidas Fall Classic. 

Schaefer continued to lead the team through the spring with her team-low 76.84 stroke average.  Schaefer's best spring performance came at the Mountain View Collegiate where she tied for 21st and finished with a 226.  At the Big 12 Championships, Schaefer tied for 25th. 

Junior (2002-03)
Schaefer finished with the fourth-best stroke average (80.28) among the Huskers. She posted her season-best tournament by tying for 17th at the adidas Fall Classic, which included a season-low 2-over-par 74 in the first round. She tied for 24th at the Pat Bradley Invitational to close the fall. Schaefer tied for 25th at the Big 12 Championships, firing a pair of 77s in the first and second rounds to help the Huskers to a fifth-place team finish. She matched her 236 at the Big 12 Championships at the NCAA Central Regional to tie for 41st, helping the Huskers qualify for the NCAA Championships. She tied for 102nd at the NCAA Championships with a 324 that included an opening-round 78. In the classroom Schaefer was awarded with first-team academic All-Big 12 honors with a 4.0 grade-point average.

Sophomore (2001-02)
Schaefer posted an 82.55 scoring average in 2001-02, seeing action in four tournaments for the Huskers. Her top performance of the year came at the Sam Houston State Spring Invitational, finishing in a tie for 29th place, including a first-round 80. Twice Schaefer carded season-low rounds of 78, once at the Heather Farr Memorial Tournament and the second time at the Central District Invitational.

Freshman (2000-01)
Schaefer saw time in NU’s starting lineup at the end of the fall season after Amanda Krane suffered an arm injury. Schaefer’s low round of the year came at the Alltel Husker Invitational with a second-round score of 83.

Before Nebraska/Amateur
A four-time academic all-conference and two-time Nebraska All-State selection, Schaefer was a model student who excelled on and off the golf course at Columbus High School.

Personal
The daughter of Mike and Linda Schaefer, Stephanie was born Jan. 16, 1981, in Columbus, Neb. Stephanie owns a 3.552 GPA as an exercise science major.
